How Spinal Traction Can Help Relieve Sciatica Pain

Benjamin Horning – Laguna Hills Chiropractor

If you discomfort every time you stand or sit, I understand how challenging that can be, this may be sciatica. Sciatica can show up as radiating pain down the leg often interferes with daily activities, exercise, and restful sleep. One of the things I love about our office is that we have a traction table. Spinal traction can be the solution for many patients seeking pain relief. At our chiropractic office, we have witnessed its positive impact on numerous individuals, and I would like to explain why it may be beneficial for you.

Sciatica is more than simple back pain. It occurs when the sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in the body, becomes compressed or irritated—commonly due to a herniated disc, bone spur, or muscle tightness in the lower back. The pain that travels from the butt (glutes) and  down the back of the leg and into the calf or foot. There can even be numbness or weakness. If this sounds familair then you are certainly not alone in dealing with this condition.

Spinal traction is a gentle, non-invasive technique designed to stretch and decompress the spine by applying a controlled force to create additional space between the vertebrae. This process reduces pressure on the sciatic nerve, and can reduce bulging disc. Importantly, the treatment is comfortable and relaxing; many patients report feeling taller and more at ease immediately afterward.

The primary benefits of traction for sciatica include the following:

It provides prompt pain relief by alleviating nerve compression and reducing inflammation. Many patients notice improvement within just a few sessions, minimizing the need for pain medications that merely mask symptoms

It supports ongoing healing, and the increased spinal space promotes better nutrient delivery to the discs. This can help slow degenerative changes and reduce the likelihood of future episodes.

It serves as a conservative alternative to surgery or prolonged medication use.

At our practice, traction forms part of a personalized treatment plan developed after a thorough evaluation. It has been rewarding to see patients from the Laguna Hills area arrive with significant limitations and depart after a course of care feeling restored and mobile once again.

So if you have sciatica in Laguna Hills or surrounding areas let us know. We’d be happy to help with our traction protocols.
